5/5/2024; Update 2: It’s confirmed! The in-branch offer has been updated to a tiered offering, and the online referral options are updated to a straight 75k offer. Personal referral links are still only 60k points, but they might change within the next month or so. Here are the details of the current offers:

In-branch:

Online:

  • 75k UR points after $4k spend within 3 months.
  • Better than the in-branch offer since you can prioritize your additional $2k spend on other offers and much more points.
  • Request our 75k online referral link to help support the page by signing up below.

Update: We’ve been seeing additional rumors that the 75k online offer should be going live sometime on May 2nd. We’ll keep all the email alert subscribers notified as soon as we see it live. Keep an eye on your inbox!

Allegedly there’s som big news in the credit card world for those waiting for an increased bonus. Doctor of Credit and Danny Deal Guru have both made statements that the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve cards are getting a bump in their bonuses for eligible applicants effective April 28, 2024.

As of now this will be an in-branch offer only, but we expect the increased SUB’s to make their way to personal and blog referrals shortly.

What You Need to Know

Late yesterday we started hearing a few rumblings about a possible new offer heading our way from Chase, and that was for an increased sign up bonus on both the Sapphire Preferred and the Sapphire Reserve cards.  Here’s how the new offer is structured:

  • Sapphire Preferred: Earn 75,000 UR points after $4,000 spend within 3 months after account opening, plus an additional 10,000 UR points after another $2,000 spend within 6 months (ie, spend $6k for 85k points).
  • Sapphire Reserve: Earn 75,000 UR points after $4,000 spend within 3 months after account opening.
These offers are only eligible to those that don’t currently have a Sapphire card, and who haven’t received any Sapphire bonus within the past 4 years (full 48 months). You can read more about this rule and how to make yourself eligible for the bonus by reading our article here.

Is this a Good Offer?

Well, it’s certainly not the worst offer we’ve seen!

The base offer on both cards is great, and if you’ve been waiting for a bump in the SUB (sign up bonus) before sending in your application then now’s the time to pull the trigger. 75k on either card is a nice bump up from the standard 60k we usually see, but the additional 10k on the CSP isn’t really going to be worth your time (or spend).

I wrote about a similar offer from a few months ago that you can read here, but the overall message is that your extra $2k spend can be used much more efficiently with other sign up bonuses. The caveat here is if you’re on the verge of running up against 5/24 and don’t wan’t to pick up additional personal cards (not sure what 5/24 is? Click here to read our article). In that case, a weak bonus is better than no bonus at all.

Which Card is Better?

Both of these cards are considered ‘premium’ credit cards, and have quite the list of perks to help frequent travelers while they’re out on the road. If you’re just getting into the points and miles game and aren’t sure you want to take on a large annual fee credit card, the Sapphire Preferred will be the obvious choice with its smaller $95 annual fee. The Sapphire Reserve has a more robust set of travel perks, but also comes with a much higher annual fee at $550:

While this table provides some good information about the basic information of each card, it is in no way comprehensive. If you’re still on the fence about which card is right for you, I highly recommend reading the full detail on the card application page (sign up here to be notified as soon as the new application pages go live), and reading about the insurance benefits offered on each card at our article here.

Getting to the Point

Both the Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve cards are top-tier, premium travel cards for those that value frequent-traveler perks. The CSP (Sapphire Preferred) has a much more palatable annual fee at only $95, and is a great introduction into the world of points and miles.

The offers that are likely to be released on April 28th aren’t the best offers we’ve ever seen on the cards (the 90k offer for the CSP in 2023 was just a bit more attractive), it certainly offers more value than you’d get out of the base offers on either card. In our opinion, if you’ve been waiting for a bump in the bonus for these cards then this is the time to send in your application.
