Looks like we’ve finally got some clarity on how Hyatt is phasing out the Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) relationship hinted at earlier this year. Effective May 15th, 2024, the longstanding partnership between Hyatt and SLH will conclude. However, fret not – new doors are opening to broaden your luxury travel horizons.
A Look Back: Hyatt and SLH's Collaborative Journey
For years, the Hyatt and SLH partnership provided members with access to a curated collection of independent, boutique hotels renowned for their unique charm and personalized service. This collaboration allowed World of Hyatt members to earn and redeem points at these exclusive properties, expanding their global luxury travel options beyond traditional Hyatt-branded locations.
In addition, Hyatt members with status at the hotel chain were able to leverage their benefits at these SLH locations. Although the terms specifically state SLH locations are exempt from having to honor them, my personal experiences were always positive.
Current Benefits for Booking SLH with Hyatt (until May 15th)
As of today, World of Hyatt members can still enjoy the perks of booking stays at participating SLH hotels through Hyatt channels. This includes earning World of Hyatt points on eligible stays, potentially qualifying for elite member benefits like room upgrades, and enjoying complimentary nights earned through program participation. These perks are only going to be good until May 15th, though, and any current reservations that are for dates past May 15th will have watered down elite recognition.
The big takeaway here is that your existing reservations will still be honored, but the elite benefits like complimentary breakfast, free parking, and possible suite upgrades won’t be honored.
That’s kind of a bummer.
A New Chapter: World of Hyatt Embraces Mr & Mrs Smith
While the SLH partnership concludes, World of Hyatt members need not worry about a dearth of luxury options. To fill the void, Hyatt has announced a new collaboration with Mr & Mrs Smith, a hospitality company known for its carefully curated portfolio of boutique hotels and unique travel experiences. This partnership promises to offer World of Hyatt members exciting new destinations and distinctive properties that cater to the discerning traveler.
Specific details regarding the benefits of the Mr & Mrs Smith partnership for World of Hyatt members are still forthcoming. However, with this new alliance, Hyatt is committed to providing its loyal members with unparalleled access to a world of unforgettable luxury travel experiences.
Getting to the Point
All good things must come to an end, I suppose. The SLH partnership with Hyatt unlocked quite a few doors – literally – to exciting, non-traditional hotels around the world, and offered us members quite an experience. It’s sad to see some of these locations getting pulled after May 15th, but I look forward to seeing the developments with the new Mr and Mrs Smith relationship.
Speaking of, we anticipate more information regarding their partnership and the implications for World of Hyatt members to be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, take advantage of the remaining opportunity to explore the world of SLH hotels through Hyatt before May 15th, and keep your eyes peeled for updates on the exciting new avenues World of Hyatt is forging to fulfill your luxury travel desires.
